ESPAFIBRAC has four production centers in different areas of the South of Tamil Nadu, India.

These factories, each carefully located to take advantage of local raw material supplies and weather characteristics, are fully equipped with specially developed machinery to transform the raw material through a series of different processes into the best quality growing material, which we offer in a range of different formats.

Manufacturing Process

Cocopeat Manufacturing Process

Decortication

The first and most important stage of the manufacturing chain. At this stage the coconut husk are selected with mature husks being acceptable. The husk is then passed through a decortication machine, in order to separate the long fibres (textiles industry), from the rest (medium and “baby” fibres, and granules of different sizes); the latter being the raw material from which the final product is prepared.

Washing and Composting

Removal of excess salts by washing several times with neutral pH water. During this process which lasts 30-40 days, many chemical analysis are performed, primarily to control Electrical Conductivity and PH and to ensure that the material reaches a stage in which it will remain as physically stable as possible.

Drying and Sterilization

The product is placed in flat drying beds, large areas free of contamination. During this process of exposure to sunlight, temperatures above 65 degrees Celsius are reached, causing a reduction of the moisture and natural sterilization.

Screening and Pressing

When the material reaches less than 18% moisture, it proceeds to a screening process, in order to separate different particle sizes and to regulate the inclusion percentages of fibres. The precision of this process is key to the production each of our distinct finished products. Each mix is designed to have the optimum characteristics for a particular different application. The respective mixes are then pressed into different formats.

Plant Protection and Packaging

The various finished products are then packed according to the requirement of the customer. At this point all phytosanitary controls required are performed.
